Great Ancoats Street

This apartment scheme was a reserved matters application for a residential development of 99 apartments with car parking in the basement on 2 levels. It was part of a larger development making up a total of 5 development plots.
The three main elements of the building are expressed by the use of complimentary materials. These materials or monotone in nature and provide a clean crisp appearance to the building but also compliment the elevational treatments of earlier phases. The ceramic rain-screen material is used on the Great Ancoats ring road elevation to offer a protective shield to the edge of the building. Within this there are two metal vertical elements and a large punched hole in the ceramic wall of the eight story block. These elements provide a balanced vertical emphasis to complement the horizontal nature of the smaller windows.
The rendered elements of the building are articulated by means of punched windows and balconies forming recesses in the Rendered Walls. The windows on the North East elevation are articulated in a random pattern. Curtain Wall Glazing is used in the light weight metal box on the Great Ancoats Street elevation facing south opening up views across the city.

“I have worked with Brian MacEntee on the design and planning of several projects for many years and found his design skills, planning knowledge and technical skills to be of a constant value to the commercial team. Brian’s negotiating skills and local planning knowledge within the UK has really come to the fore during meetings with local council planning officials and given the commercial team confidence in the delivery of the project. Brian’s ability to clearly understand and interpret a commercial brief allied to his ability to design buildings with flair working within cost parameters impressed me greatly. I would have no hesitation in recommending his practice to future clients who require a highly personable and extremely competent Architectural service.”
