About the practice

Brian MacEntee Architecture & Design Ltd (BMAD) is based in Cardiff and serves the UK market with a predominant focus in the London and the South West. BMAD thrives upon collaborative working and we are dedicated to delivering a high quality design service.

The built environment shapes our experiences and influences the quality of our daily lives. Our aim is to create the highest quality built form enabling end users to live, work and enjoy their daily lives to the full potential achievable.

BMAD excel when working with existing buildings, the renovation, conversion and extension of existing buildings is at the core of our business. We also design new buildings and have recently being commissioned to design a number of new build projects.

Architectural Philosophy

Flexibility, innovation and practicality are three key elements which underpin our design philosophy, and which we believe are essential in creating the best building possible to suit the needs of our clients.
Our preoccupation is with an architecture that is coherent, both intellectually and emotionally from concept through to detail. We believe each project is unique to its brief, context and client aspirations and understand a pre-prepared solution does not suit all projects. At all times the impact both through the construction period and life time of the building should be considered to find the most sustainable, economic and efficient solution.

PRINCIPAL ARCHITECT & FOUNDER

Brian MacEntee BA (Hons) Arch Dip Arch RIBA ARB

Originally hailing from Fermanagh in Northern Ireland, Brian studied architecture at Liverpool John Moores University under Professor Doug Clelland, qualifying as an architect in 2001. Following a successful architectural career, which included working closely with Professor Clelland after finishing his studies, achieving the position of Associate at international practice AFL Architects, and being selected by the award-winning practice Austin-Smith:Lord to manage the design and delivery of a flagship project for the National Assembly of Wales as overall project director, he established BMAD in 2012. It was here that Brian wanted to create something different – an Architectural Practice that specialises in putting customers first and giving them a pivotal role in the design of their space.
With his friendly, calm and enthusiastic Irish disposition Brian has the innate skill of putting customers at ease, so that they can feel complete freedom to express what they want and would like from their design project. With a drawing ability that brings projects to life and a talent for making spaces work, Brian has brought together a skilled and accomplished team to provide imaginative and practical solutions; delivering beautiful spaces and wonderful new ways of living.
In his spare time Brian is a keen rugby and football fan, an interest shared by his wife and two young sons, and can be found coaching the St Peter’s Under 8’s team and the Maindy Corries Under 7’s team. He also enjoys equestrian sports, wakeboarding and hitting the slopes followed by a spot of Après Ski. Brian also dedicates considerable time to local charities.
